!st and 2nd Periods Response #4

This week, I want your response to focus on the setting of your book. What is the main setting of the book? What time period? What part of the year? After you have explained the setting of your book, I want you to go a step further and analyze how the setting affects the story. Why do you think the author chose this setting? How would a different setting change the plot of the book? Also share your relationship with the setting. Have you ever been to this setting? How do you visualize it in your mind? Would you want to visit this place if you haven't already? Why or why not? Please consider your answer carefully before typing your response. Submit sincere answers, not just the first thing that pops into your mind.

Have a great week everyone!

Hi Mrs.Reed
The setting in my book changes alot from wilderness to city to some mystical place. Sometimes when they change the background it can be bad for some of the characters definately the mystical setting because two of the characters have to find their way back home. I can definately say that this is a great book and it will have you guessing and interested in the next part. All i can say about the setting is that there is always water in the setting. lol!!!!

Hi Mrs.Reed,
In my book "forged by fire" the setting of the story began in a drug house in Ohio. The main character in this book is a boy named George, who's mother is a drug addict. The setting's changed thoughout the book beacause he was moved several times because of his mother's addiction. I would not want to be in any of these settings because of his mother's addiction and because of all the moving he has done. So far the book has kept my attention and keeps me wondering whats going to happen next.

In The Poisonwood Bible the mother is in georgia flashing back on africa. I don't know why they couldn't go somewhere they would be more relation to.The author probably picked this place because she knew what it was like their.I've never been to africa don't really plan to go their any time soon how those kids look makes me upset and wish that I could do something about it. At first I thought this book was aweful but after a while you get into it.When I moved here about six years ago I looked at evryone here the same way they did when they first got to africa.

Hey Mrs. Reed,
In my book, Speak, the setting is at school,at home, and somewhat during summer. The main girl goes to school and sometimes she skips and goes to the hospital or the mall or else she'll stay home. This book is really interesting and im almost done with it. Yes, ive been to the mall before and the hospital. I think the author chose these settings because they are most often used in real life. Well, maybe not the hospital but sometimes. Alright, i forgot the rest of the question so i guess im done. Bye!

Hey Mrs.Reed,
The setting of my book is in Carvahall, the Spine, Teirm, and Utgard. This story is in modern times but not of our world per say. It's like a Harry Potter, it uses magic and dragons. Eragon is traveling from place to place trying to find the Ra'zac and once he finds them something happens and they have to find them again. Then the Shade come in and take Eragon but he escapes. So it is kind of confusing but I think I get the general points of the idea. The author used these settings to show how much the riders have to travel when completing one mission. They literally are traveling everywhere.

In My Book "Best Actress" the setting takes place in different mansions during oscar time/spring maybe. The actresses are nominated for the best actress award and its 4 of them, Fiona Covington,Karen Kroll, Amber Lyons, and Connie Travatano. They're all ADULT FILM stars and every seperate chapter explains what they went through to get nominated (from there point of view) and what they're doing know and after to win "Best Actress".

the setting of my book a child called "it" takes place at a boy named davids house who had a good life tell his mom and dad started arguing and she abused him. the setting affects the story because at his house its usually only him and his m0m and sometimes his brothers so noone can save him from his mothers wrath.i pretty sure the author chose this setting because it is a true story and that is were it to0k placE.i visualize his house at dirty and sloopy because his mother is a drunk and is always wasted and does nothn but abuse david and drink and watch tv.i wouldnt want to visited this setting because it is a bad setting.=( i ahve no relationship with the setting atall excpet that my room is sloopy liek i would guess his house is

Hey Mrs. Reed, i am reading Night by Elie Wiesel. The setting of the book is at the Auschwitz concentration cames. They move from camp to camp throughout the whole book. Elie survived living in the concentration camps, he was with his dad the whole time but got separated from his mom at the beginning. They were put through a lot and it was very hard, not everyone lived.

Dear Mrs.Reed,
the setting in The memiors of Sherlock Holmes is in the 30's.The setting goes real well with the book because the whole book is about a private investigator and in those times they had a lot of them to solve their cases. It relates to me in a way that when Sherlock Holmes is trying to figure out these cases it just feels like you are right there with him in the book.I think the author chose this setting because he knew that it would suit the character all together in the book.

My book takes place in da city of
New York. This book takes place in present time. This book gots to take place around the Fall or Spring time because people are in the playgrounds
playing basketball there for it should be warm weather. The author chose this setting because its the perfect time to play basketball. On the other hand, if it was in the winter there would be snow and nowhere to play basketball.Yeah, by me living in florida im always exposed to the warm climate. But i never been in snow before. I can visualize basketball courts surrounded by tall fences. A large crowd watching the games. I wouldnt want to live there because i hate cold weather.

Ms.Reed I am reading "The skin I'm in". The main setting of the book is McClenton middle school which is the school the main character attends.I don't think that the book really explains the time period or the time of the year.I think the author chose this setting because most of the stuff happens there. For example the main character, is telling the story and most of the people talk about her there, which is mostly what the book is about; people talking about her skin color. Well maybe if she as in a school that had more mature people she would not get bothered so much. I really haven't been to this place, but I imagine the setting just like every book I read; in places I have seen or already been to. I don't think that I would want to go to this place because the people sound rude and food sounds nasty.

Hey Mrs Reed
The setting of this book is Nazi Germany during World War II in the concentration camps known as Auschwitz, Birkenau and Buna. The book goes through different times of the year. The author chose this setting because he wanted to tell the story about that time and because he had also been in the concentration camps. The book could not have been the same if the setting had been differnt. The setting is what makes the book because it's all true. I have never been to the concentration camps and don't ever want to be in one. I picture them as a really bad place that no one would want to go to.

Hey mrs reed,
Sorry this is a late response but i found a book i really like. Its a baseball book. I havent gotthat many pages done but i still can do the response. The main setting is in South Bronx. The time period is this century. The part of year is the begining of summer. The setting affects the story by kids are happy its summer and there doing stuff they would not be doing in school. The author probably chose this setting either because he lives in New York or he knows alot about it. A different setting would change the plot by if this boy did this in a different city it would be a different punisment. I can releat to this book by the fact its about baseball. No i have never been in this setting because i dont have out down town. I visualize the setting in a not so good part of town. alot of stuff going on at one time. I would not mined visiting the South Bronx because i think i could handle all of what goes on there. The good stuff and the bad. vince

Really the main settings in my book are Cyd's home and the beach, also the nursing home. The time period is pretty much today I would have to say. In the summer I think, it doesn't really say. I think that the author chose this setting because it explains different events that take place in the book. Yes, actually I was born in California and that is were the girl lives and I have been to the coast and beaches. Yeah I would love to go back and visit my aunt and cousin's. Because they are a fun family to be arround and we are always out and about looking at every thing.

When we first started this unit, i thought to myself....??? what is ms reed getting herself into now. But as i listened [like i always do lol]I noticed and identified that the word censorship means withhold or restrict.but to answer the question that was asked books should not be censored, reason being ,people have there on opinions about thing that they read but that and it shouldnt stop a person from reading it cause to you or whom ever this may concuren might love the book that was censored so u cannot go by judgment.
where as music i could understand why that would be. but at the same time banning music is a little to much. yes at a matter of fact i have read a book that was banned judy blume [areyou there God its me margert]which i loved but to sad to it was banned.
